    Description

    Joseph Standley (1854-1940)
Circa 1880. The torture of a witch: a shaman's carving with alder bark still attached. Circa 1909 Ye Olde Curiosity Shop label. Disturbing & never-before-seen artifact from Standley's original collection. This carving,
    or one very similar
, appears in a photo on page 19 of Standley's pre-1915 "Price List of 1001 Curious Things" (pic 3 above).
~ In 1909 The Smithsonian and several other North American museums traveled to Seattle by sailing ship & train. They purchased much of Standley's collection. Even today, those early 1909 acquisitions remain the foundation & most highly prized Pacific Northwest artifacts for each of those institutions. Measures about 12" tall. Shipping will be .95 to any U.S. address.
The online shaman photo is not included.
    THE HONOLULU CABINET
newspaper & magazine articles are also not included but for scale only. You can read more about the cabinet on eBay by searching eBay for "Honolulu cabinet". Belonging to the last reigning monarch of The Kingdom of Hawai'i, and designed around her 1878 Aloha 'Oe and 1895 tower imprisonment, it could well-be the most important discovery in Hawaiian history.
