Vintage Plains Horse Dance Wand Native American Indian

Description

This is a vintage Plains Native American Dance Wand. It is made of wood and painted with a story -- mountains at the hoof end with a teepee house, then a long arrow in flight, lightening above the arrow. In front of the arrow's head, there are animal tracks - a bear, etc. On the other side is a running buffalo. There is a circle with a cross in it by the buffalo. At the horsed neck and forward are for symbols that look like a three sided square. Horse wands were made in honor usually of a current or past horse that was killed in battle, brave, a favorite of its owners, etc. An old edition of Arizona Highways has a great article on the horse wands. I can send a copy with this one if the buyer would like to read about them. They were made during the late 1800 to early 1900's. Please look at the photos for the details: the hoof carved in at the bottom, the horses head, the string of beads and bells. The horse has a horse hair mane and tale. I have two horse wands and decided to sell this one. It is not often that I see the horse wand for sale. This one has much personality and meaning to the person who used it.  A great artifact for a collection - excellent condition. Measures 30 1/2" L
