Description

FROM an old collection of Northwest Coast Native American Artifacts and Art a small painted Wooden plaque (looks like cedar) measuring about 5.00" x 3.5" x 3/4" in size and painted with the depiction of what I assume is a character of Haida Legend (I do not recognize what this depiction represents) nor do I know the purpose of this plaque as it has holes and string that appears made of plants, roots or cedar tree perhaps and two small handmade beads either glass or some other material, perhaps natural. I would guess as there are more holes that there were more beads, perhaps two more, attached to the bottom. Maybe these beads were merely decorative--or maybe this plaque was some sort of rattle. As you can see there was a paper once attached to the back and what remains is quite brittle and prone to flaking. I would guess that paper would have told us quite abit about this unusual plaque.
A very fine and original old piece of Tribal Art from somewhere along the Northwest Coast.
