    Description

Antique Early World War I hand painted Porcelain Pitcher/Creamer with Flags of Allies, ca. 1914-15.  This little pitcher holds 7 ozs. and is in amazing condition!  There is no damage, wear, or fading because it was not displayed or used.  It has been stored away for the last 105 years.  It was produced during the early days of WWI (1914-1915)  because the only Allies listed are: Great Britain, France, Belgium, and Russia.  Later in the war, The United States and other countries joined those Allied troops.  The detail of the 4 flags, a green wreath, and 2 hands shaking, is remarkably intact.  These vibrant colors are not stamped on, but rather hand painted on.  This delicate porcelain creamer is even clean on the bottom.  W.H. Goss is the British company that produced this well preserved piece of WWI memorabilia.  It's markings can be seen on the base.  3.75" tall by 3.5" wide.
    History:
    Date  8/1/1914
Four days after Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, Germany and Russia declared war against each other, France orders a general mobilization, and the first German army units cross into Luxemburg in preparation for the German invasion of France.  During the next 3 days, the Allied forces of Russia, France, Belgium, and Great Britain, all lined up against Austria-Hungary and Germany.  The German army then invaded Belgium.  The "Great War" that ensued was one of unprecedented destruction and loss of life resulting in the death of some 20 million soldiers and civilians.  The United States did not enter the war on the side of the Allies until 2017, so the US flag is not depicted here.
